What are the most common gynecological tests?
Depending on the type of consultation, the medical history and the family history of each woman, the gynecologist will receive a series of complementary tests. Among them, the most common are:
- Vaginal cytology Through this test, the cells of the vagina and cervix are obtained to diagnose alterations that can trigger serious diseases such as cervical cancer, among others.
- Gynecological ultrasound. Using ultrasound (Echo) images of the female genital tract, uterus and ovaries are obtained. Unlike mammography, this test does not emit radiation.
- Mammography. This test allows exploration of the breast tissue using radiological techniques; that is, with X-rays. It is the main diagnostic tool for the early detection of breast cancer, although it requires other complementary tests, such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging of the breast.
- Blood test. Essential blood test to determine the patient's profile and to control her hormonal levels and the general health status of the woman.
